Important Information
Best season: March–May or September–November for mild weather. Summer can be hot and humid — pack light clothing and sunscreen.
Child JR Passes (6–11 years) are 50% off adult price. Under 6 travels free (no seat reservation). We will arrange child passes in advance.
USJ can be extremely crowded — we recommend the Express Pass for families to minimize wait times, especially for Harry Potter and Super Nintendo World.
Nara deer are generally gentle but can be pushy when food is involved. Supervise young children closely.
The Peace Memorial Museum has content that may be intense for very young children — our concierge will provide age-appropriate guidance.
Luggage forwarding (takkyubin) is highly recommended for families — send large suitcases between hotels while traveling with day packs.
Travel Tips
Convenience stores are lifesavers for families — onigiri (rice balls), sandwiches, and drinks available 24/7.
Download the Japan Transit Planner app — it shows which train cars are closest to exits and elevators, essential with strollers.
Baby changing facilities are excellent in Japan — available at all major stations, department stores, and most restaurants.
Many temples and shrines have stamp books (goshuincho) — kids love collecting the unique ink stamps at each location.
Bring comfortable walking shoes for everyone — Japan involves more walking than most families expect.
Vending machines sell hot and cold drinks everywhere — perfect for keeping kids hydrated without carrying heavy bottles.
Traveler Reviews
The Johnson Family
Absolutely perfect for families! Universal Studios was the highlight for our kids, but they also loved feeding deer in Nara. The ryokan in Hakone was a magical experience for all of us.

Great balance of fun and education. The Peace Memorial was moving and important for our children to see. Every day had something special for the kids. Highly recommended!
